barriotic

First day of May and yep, that’s me dirty and barefoot. If my co-workers were to take a look at me, they’d have only one label for me: barriotic. My friend and colleague Glady sums it up nicely: it’s our favorite slang for anything promdi.  So that’s barriotic sugarcane fields to my right (well, you’re not barriotic if you owned the fields…), barriotic houses to my left, and there’s barriotic me standing in the rain all slipper-less and feet deep in mud. Thankful now that I decided against a mani-pedi yesterday!

We took a close-to-two-hour drive to Hda. Canibungan in Cadiz City, home of our beloved yayas. Marvin, Mama Rose’s son, turned 7 and the invitation for this Labor Day celebration goes back 3 years. So you see, we just had to come. It was my first time there and when they said house in the hacienda (because their real home is in the heart of the farm, too far in and without electricity), I thought we’d drive into a little “plaza” and their’s would be among the homes there. Nooo, we had to walk through some rocks, slippery mud, some sugarcane fields and rice paddies to get to their little green house. Because it rained, the way back was trickier. That’s why our feet had to go commando.

But we had a great time! The kids enjoyed the party and the mamas’ relatives simply fawned over baby Sophia. Zach was acting too much of a big boy to have anyone fawn over him. Anyone who tried, he’d shun off and go play in the fields. He was overly confident today because his cousin, Ate Leslie, came too so he could afford being suplado. Meanwhile, birthday boy Marvin, was as happy as can be. A party in his honor! Happy Birthday Marvin, many more happy returns.

Harharhar! Really barriotic! But I think your presence made yaya really happy so it’s all worth it.
