Colorful Weekend #2
Welcome to the Party! We had a series of rainbow days last week and I immensely enjoyed blog hopping to see your fun and colorful photos.
Next week, June 12th, the Philippines celebrates 113 years of Independence. Our tradition at home is to display the Philippine flag outside for the whole month. This time around, I also wanted indoor decor that would heighten my kids’ awareness of the occasion. Come make this too! It’s pretty decor that radiates Pinoy pride.
This triangle paper banner is fun and easy to do. For this project, we are using the Philippine Flag colors blue, red, white and yellow. (I didn’t get to use a lot of white though. But the string is white, so that should count.)
- Construction Paper: Blue, Red and Yellow
- White Cord, the length of which you determine. To emphasize more of the white, you can also use satin ribbon in that color, 1/2″ to 1″ thick
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Hot glue gun & glue sticks
How to Make:
1. Determine the size that you would like your triangles to be. For this project, I used the size of the construction paper as a guide. A 9×12″ paper yields 3 triangles.
Make triangles for blue and red construction paper.

2. Make your Sun. No specific size.
I used one of my kitchen canisters to draw the circle then figured out the 8 points and drew the rays freehand.
Tip: Imagine slicing your circle like you would a pie. Then use the tips as your guide to making the rays.
3. Make the stars. Here’s a quick 5-point star tutorial with no pattern needed.
4. (Optional) This particular banner has the sun and stars for a centerpiece so I made a knot in the middle of the white cord for easy hanging. Make knots at both ends of the cord too.

If you wish to hang the banner using only the ends of the cord, that’s cool too so forget the middle knot.
5. Position cord and place sun in the middle. Stick with hot glue. Do the same to the stars and triangles.
Kalayaang Pilipino decorative banner done!
Note: Because I ran out of bright yellow paper, I had to make do with light yellow for the Sun. To make it “shine,” I used bright yellow paper scraps to make the ray details.

And that’s how colorful our weekend is right now! YOUR TURN. What mix of colors are you digging? If you have something colorful to share on your blog, join my party and link up!
