Looong Holy Week weekend! Today is Good Friday and my family and I will be doing The Way of the Cross, a long walk of roughly about 5 kilometers. No joke. The huge crosses are spaced so far apart. It’s been a family tradition of my in-laws to do this. MIL and FIL have been walking the Via Crusis for over 35 years now.
We have to start early, 4:00am kind of early. Otherwise our blistered feet will also have to brave the sun’s rays way before we reach the 7th station.
On footwear. Should be comfortable, of course. Rubber shoes are the best option but the path is not so bad. The crosses are lined along the national highway so it’s mostly paved. There are a few rough patches though. Nevertheless, slippers fit the bill well! I wore flip-flops on some years we did the Via Crusis and I guess my feet survived. Besides, they’re comfy.
The kids will be in better footwear, of course. Zach has managed to walk all the way in the past and he will be too big to be carried now so I hope he can manage fine later. Sophia will still definitely need some carrying most of the time. So will Kirk, my nephew (SIL’s baby) and the newest and littlest participant in the family this year. Talk about carrying the cross… they are heavy kiddos!
Because the pink slippers are fab, I am linking this up with

Today also happens to be Earth Day. So I am thankful for this major holiday, which will mean fewer vehicles on the road. As we reflect on the Passion and Death of Jesus, let us also be reminded that we are stewards of the earth He walked on. Let us be kinder to our planet!
