how to make a barrette holder frame

Sophia’s hairclips go in a jar next to all her other grooming stuff. Sure, it makes for a clutter-free dresser, but it gets tedious sorting through the pairs you want to use after a while. And because my baby looks soooo adorable with kikay hair, we go through a lot of clip sorting.

If you have a little girl, for sure she has tons of hair candy too! Here’s a little project you can do to keep her barettes organized. Quick and easy, it doesn’t cost much and you probably have all the stuff you need in your house anyway. Makes for a great dresser, wall or shelf display too!

Stuff you need:

  • Picture or document frame (8×10″ or bigger)
  • Scrap cloth
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Small staple tacker or heavy-duty stapler
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks

You can use an old picture frame, if you have one you don’t need. I bought this one at National Bookstore for P50. As for the glass… maybe another craft project? I will have to find other uses for it and I wrapped it up in layers of newspaper before keeping in a safe place.

You really only need very little cloth, just enough to cover your board plus allowance. No scrap cloth? Some fabric stores sell “damaged” cloth really cheap. I bought this fabric (that’s almost a yard long, by the way) for only P20!

Sophia is a huge Dora fan and I’m glad I found these printed ribbons.

A small staple tacker or a large stapler is best. The large heavy-duty kind will destroy the thin board. Even with my small tacker, I still had to smooth down some of the staples’ ends that went through just.a.little.bit.

Last tip: For popping wall candy, use excess ribbon to make a loop so you can hang the barette frame on your wall. Functional and pretty, how perfect is that?

Get your weekend craft going!

  1. Super cute and functional! Where did you get those Dora ribbons, by the way? As for the glue gun, we have one in the office, so I guess, that’s where I can sneakily do the frame :) I’m so excited to show this to my daughter tomorrow! She’s with her dad right now :(
    Again, thanks for this post.
