paper cup ornaments {holiday tutorial}

Add these easy-to-make ornaments to your home this Christmas. It’s great for your tree or shelf! If you have wall space that needs some holiday cheer, these would be great if paired with a small wreath or a bunch of acorns, pine and some tinsel.

If you’ve noticed that these two are different from the last two, you’re totally spot on. My niece Leslie brought the latter set to school to hang at the school tree so I had to scrunch up another quick set for this tute. They are much much better looking than the ones below but at least you get the picture.

These ornaments don’t cost much because you probably have the stuff you need at home already like old Christmas baubles and ribbons. And whatever you need to buy, don’t worry. They’re downright cheap!

Stuff You Need:

Silly Santa Materials

  • Paper Cup
  • Christmas Bauble
  • Glitter: red & white
  • Ribbon: black, thin
  • Ribbon: red, thick
  • Googly eyes
  • White cord, frayed (scrap)
  • Sequin, button or flat bead
Smiley Snowman Materials

  • Paper Cup
  • Christmas Bauble
  • Glitter: white
  • Ribbon
  • Googly eyes
  • Toothpicks (2-4 pcs.)
  • Sequins, buttons or flat beads

You will also need white glue and hot glue.

STEP 1: Make the Body

Silly Santa

Red Coat:

  • Slather glue over the cup, leaving out a small strip or space
  • Pour red glitter over wet glue
  • Shake off excess
  • Let dry for 5 minutes

White Strip on Coat:

  • Slather glue over the strip
  • Pour white glitter over wet glue
  • Shake off excess
  • Let dry for 5 minutes
Smiley Snowman

  • Slather glue all over the cup
  • Pour white glitter over wet glue
  • Shake off excess
  • Let dry for 5 minutes

You should end up with something like this:

Some notes:

  • Elmer’s Glue works best!
  • Alternative to glitter? Try salt.

Next, you want to complete the body with embellishments.

Make Santa’s Belt

  • Hot glue black ribbon
  • Embellish with sequin
Complete Snowman’s Body

  • Color in toothpick. I used a black marker but you can also use watercolor
  • Cut small pieces of extra toothpicks and hot glue them to create the arms
  • Stick arms in both sides of body and secure with hot glue
  • Embellish with sequins on front

STEP 2: Make the Head

Silly Santa

  • Hot glue bauble onto body
  • Attach eyes
  • Glue on bits of frayed cord for hair and beard. No cord? Use cotton!
Smiley Snowman

  • Slather glue all over the bauble
  • Pour white glitter over wet glue
  • Shake off excess. Let dry.
  • Hot glue bauble onto body
  • Attach eyes
  • Outline mouth with white glue
  • Pour red glitter on mouth
  • Shake off excess. Let dry.

STEP 3: Finish Off

Silly Santa
Finish off with a strip of wide red ribbon. I got mine from old Christmas décor. Hot glue one corner to keep it in place and wrap it round, finishing off with more glue.If you plan to hang it, don’t forget to let your string from the bauble peek out!
Smiley Snowman
Finish off with a strip of colored ribbon for a scarf. Hot glue ribbon in place. Voila!

See? Easy! Happy crafting!
Here’s another super EASY holiday craft perfect for kid hands.
